What are Varicose Veins?

We’ve all seen people with those large bumps and bulges on their legs. Varicose veins are very common. They can be painful, itchy and ugly. Fortunately, varicose veins are very treatable.

What causes them?

Normal veins become varicose veins when the one-way valves inside them start to leak. This can happen in a number of ways. For some people, it just runs in the family. For others, it could be a result of pregnancy, trauma, or being overweight. It can also be caused by jobs which require sitting or standing all day. That’s right office workers, teachers, nurses, hairdressers, postal workers, flight attendants-we’re talking to you.
